Publicly funded eating disorder programs in Ontario: who they take, and how to get referred

Ontario's hospital and public-system eating disorder programs in one place, grouped by region, with who each one takes, the ages, the format, and the referral route. No form, nothing to buy.

Every program below checked against its own official page on 2026-08-02

What this page is

This is a free public resource. It is a single, sourced list of the publicly funded and public-system hospital eating disorder programs in Ontario, grouped by region, so that a person or a family trying to find help does not have to piece it together from a dozen hospital websites. For each program it gives who runs it, the city, the ages served, the treatment format, and the plain-language referral route. Nothing here is behind a form, and there is nothing to buy.

Who wrote it, and what that does and does not mean

Lauren Hofstee is a Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Ontario, working in private practice. She is not affiliated with any of the programs on this page, receives nothing from any of them, and cannot get anyone into any of them. This page is meant to be useful even to someone who will never contact her. The programs are listed because they are real and because people ask where to start.

How to read each entry

Every entry gives the program name and the hospital or organization that runs it, the city and region, the ages it serves, the treatment format, the referral route in plain words, and a link to the official page it was checked against. Fees are not listed, because coverage varies and depends on your situation. Wait times are not listed as figures, because a list like this cannot keep them current, and a wrong number is worse than none. Where a program publishes its own statement about waiting, that is quoted as its wording.

Every program below was checked against the program's own page on 2026-08-02. Programs change their intake criteria without notice, so confirm directly before you rely on anything here.

What a private practice dietitian can and cannot do alongside a program

Eating disorder care in Ontario is usually a team: a physician or nurse practitioner for the medical monitoring, a therapist for the psychological side, and a dietitian for food and eating. If you have been referred to a program or placed on a waitlist, being on a list is not the same as being supported, and a few things can happen in the meantime without anyone's permission.

What a private dietitian can do

Work on the nutrition piece. Helping you eat regularly and adequately again, working slowly through food rules and fear foods, making sense of hunger and fullness after they have been disrupted, and taking some of the fear and moral weight out of eating. Lauren Hofstee is a Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Ontario who does this work virtually across Ontario, from a non-diet, weight-inclusive place, and is glad to coordinate with a program or a physician with your consent.

What a private dietitian cannot do

A private dietitian cannot admit you to hospital, cannot medically clear you, is not crisis support, and is not a substitute for a hospital program if that is the level of care the situation calls for. If a situation is urgent or medically unstable, that belongs with emergency or specialist medical care, and a dietitian in private practice should say so plainly.

If you would like to talk it through

If you want to work out where a dietitian might fit while you wait, or whether one fits at all right now, Lauren offers a free introductory call. It is a conversation, not an assessment, with no obligation to book anything after it. If it is not what you need, these pages are still yours to use: eating disorder support across Ontario lists community groups and help lines, how to find an eating disorder dietitian in Ontario walks through choosing one, and the common questions page answers what a first step looks like. You can book the free call here.

Questions

Do these programs cost anything?

The hospital programs on this page are part of Ontario's public system, and this page does not list fees. Coverage and any cost depend on the program and on your situation, so confirm directly with the program. Homewood Health Centre is a specialized hospital where intake pathways vary, and Body Brave states on its own site that its recovery services are offered free of charge.

Do I need a referral?

Most of the hospital programs require a referral from a physician or nurse practitioner, and several ask for recent blood work and an ECG with it. A few accept self-referrals: the Regional Eating Disorders Program at Health Sciences North accepts self-referrals, Homewood's intake team can be contacted directly, and Body Brave lets you self-register with no referral.

What if I do not have a family doctor?

You still have routes. The help lines answer without a referral. Body Brave and the Health Sciences North program accept self-referrals. Walk-in clinics and nurse practitioner-led clinics can do the medical monitoring and can write a referral. ConnexOntario can help you find what exists near you.

Can I see a private dietitian while I wait for a program?

Yes. Being referred to or waitlisted for a hospital program does not stop you doing anything else. A private practice dietitian can work on the nutrition side, but cannot admit you, medically clear you, or replace a hospital program if that is the level of care needed. There is more on what a private dietitian can and cannot do further down this page.

What if a program says I do not meet its criteria?

Criteria differ from program to program, and being turned away by one does not mean no help exists. Ask that program where else to try, use the help lines, and keep the medical monitoring going with a family doctor or nurse practitioner in the meantime.

How current is this list?

Every program was checked against its own official page on 2026-08-02. Intake criteria, ages and formats change without notice, so confirm directly before you rely on anything here. If you find something out of date, please write in and it will be corrected.

Last checked 2026-08-02. Each program on this page was checked against its own official website on that date. Ages, formats and referral routes are quoted or paraphrased from the program's own page, and nothing has been added that the program does not state itself. Fees are not listed, and wait times are not listed as figures. Programs that could not be verified from their own page today were left out rather than guessed at.

If you work at one of these programs and something here is wrong, out of date, or framed in a way you would not choose, please write to laurenhofstee.rd@gmail.com and it will be corrected. Corrections are welcome from anyone.

If a situation is urgent or medically unstable, contact your local emergency service or call or text 9-8-8. This page is information, not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for assessment by a clinician.
