A warm, honest walk through a first session with a non-diet dietitian: what we talk about, what we never do, and what you leave with.
A lot of people come to a first session braced for judgment, expecting to be handed a strict plan or asked to justify what they ate. That is not how this goes. The first session is mostly a conversation, a chance for me to understand you and for you to get a feel for whether we fit. You do not need to have your thoughts organized or your goals figured out. Showing up is enough.
We start with your story. What brought you here, what your relationship with food and your body has been like, and what has and has not helped in the past. We might touch on your history, your day to day, how eating fits around your work and family, and the things that feel hard right now. There is no script you have to follow. You share what feels right, and we go at your pace.
I will not put you on a diet, hand you a rigid meal plan, or ask you to count or track anything. There is no lecture about willpower and no list of foods you are no longer allowed. Care here is non-diet and weight-inclusive, which means we are not chasing a number on a scale. If weighing ever comes up for a medical reason, it is discussed with you first, never sprung on you.
Sessions are virtual, so you join from home or wherever you feel comfortable, on a private video call. A first session usually runs around fifty to sixty minutes, a little longer than a follow up because there is more ground to cover. You do not need special equipment, just a device and a quiet spot. If nerves make video hard at first, we can work with that too.
By the end you should feel more understood than analyzed. We will name a gentle next step or two, nothing overwhelming, and talk about what ongoing support might look like if you want to continue. You will not walk away with a stack of rules. You will walk away with a clearer sense of direction and, ideally, a bit of relief that this can feel kinder than you expected.
If reading this settled some of the nerves, that is a good sign. Before a first session there is also a free intro call, a short and no-pressure chance to ask questions and see how it feels to talk with me. There is no commitment attached, and no wrong reason to reach out.
Not really. You do not need to write out a food diary or bring test results, though you are welcome to mention anything you think matters. Coming as you are, with whatever is on your mind, is genuinely enough.
No. This is non-diet care. There are no meal plans handed down and no tracking required. We focus on your relationship with food and what would actually help you feel steadier, not on rules or numbers.
The first call is free, and there is no pressure to continue. It is just a calm conversation about what you are looking for.
